Birth of Goddess Lakshmi from the Samudra Manthan

Birth of Goddess Lakshmi from the Samudra Manthan, or churning of the ocean.

The Devas took the help of the Asuras to churn the ocean. They added herbs, used the Mandara mountain, Vasuki as the rope and Lord Vishnu took the form of a tortoise or Kurma to hold up the mountain. The churning gave rise to toxins, precious gifts, and the nectar of immortality. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, was also born from the ocean.

My painting of the Birth of Goddess Lakshmi (Acrylic on canvas, 3’x2′). Please DM me if you want to buy this painting.
