Vijay Shekhar Sharma, a bright boy from a middle-class Aligarh UP family enrolled at Delhi College of Engineering in 1994. Struggling with English, he retreated to the back of the class. But this resilient Hindi-medium student taught himself English and dived into the computer lab. Sharma started various ventures in college. A web venture was acquired by a US firm with the founder locked-in with a salary. In 2001, the entrepreneur founded One97 Communications, offering news, ringtones and jokes for mobile phone users. That’s when Nokia dominated mobiles. Known for his unmatched work ethic and energy in the growing mobile industry, he foresaw that transactions would happen Through Mobile and launched PayTM in 2010.
